The population of the TPC Sawgrass agronomy team increased by 80 people on Saturday with arrivals from all around the world. One gentleman spent 30 hours to get here from Malaysia just to be a part of a group of volunteers that will be here all week preparing Golf's Greatest Stadium.
What a fantastic learning experience for these volunteers as they see how it is done here for THE PLAYERS. John Deere continues to support this outstanding volunteer program. Lucas Andrews (Dye's Valley Superintendent) is handling the logistics of ensuring that 80 people get here, get house and transported and then ready to roll. Tom Vlach (Director of Agronomy) and Clay Breazeale (THE PLAYERS Stadium Superintendent) have worked with their management team to be sure that things will run smoothly. The plan is in place and now it is all about the execution.
Sunday is the first day to get everyone oriented to the property and comfortable with their roles. Early morning saw the fleet headed out carrying out a variety of tasks. The front nine and back nine have different teams doing similar tasks that included:
· Greens mowed
· Tees mowed
· Collars mowed
· Fairways mowed
· Bunkers raked with a combination of machines and hand rakes
· Double rolling of greens
· Moisture sensing
· Stimpmeter readings
The only chance to get a group photo was today and 120 people gathered with the 18th hole as a backdrop. John Deere will be sure all the volunteers and staff get a photo of the group that made things happen this week at THE PLAYERS!
