Well, it hasn't exactly been the perfect start for THE PLAYERS Championship preparations here with the TPC Sawgrass Agronomy Team. A total of 10 inches of rain fell over the last couple days, forcing us to put the mowers and other equipment away in exchange for water pumps and bunker shovels. Fortunately the course has drained well, and staff of 170 strong (70 TPC staff, 70 volunteers, and 30 temporary laborers) have been able to get it back into shape quickly. In addition to debris cleanup and water pumping, our morning program involved grooming the 'MiniVerde' greens at 0.050 inches, dropping the height of cut on greens from 0.132 to 0.130 inches and mowing four times, double rolling greens, and repairing bunkers. This was the first morning with the full staff of superintendent and student volunteers from across the world.
