Heater Data

Since the installation of the heaters we have been recording data every day. The fields of data that we are collecting are; Environmental Factors, Soil Temperatures, Canopy Temperatures, Soil Moisture, and Clipping Yields.

All of the data collected is proving the effectiveness of the heaters, however our most substantial field this far has been clipping yields.

We mowed on the 11th February 15, 2011 after having the heaters in suction mode for 6 days due to the constant rain. Despite not heating the soil during this time it is evident that the heaters have lasting effects on the growth of the grass. When collecting clippings we measure the volume, all the heated greens and 6 non-heated greens, averages are taken and percentages made factoring in the square footage of greens to give an accurate comparison.

Here are the results from the 11th February;

#1 had 125% more clippings then non-heated

#4 had 25% more clippings then non-heated

#9 had 42% less clippings then non-heated

#10 had 150% more clippings then non-heated

#17 had 75% more clippings then non-heated

Putting Green had 285% more clippings then non-heated

Disregarding #9 which is a green that suffers from a lack of afternoon sun the results are extremely positive.

The following results were taken on the 15th February 2011, after having the heaters on for 4 consecutive days while experience very cold night time temperatures.

15th February;

#1 had 300% more clippings then non-heated

#4 had 150% more clippings then non-heated

#9 had 216% more clippings then non-heated

#10 had 550% more clippings then non-heated

#17 had 250% more clippings then non-heated

Putting Green had 350% more clippings then non-heated

These results are remarkable; to be getting an increase like this from one green to another just by the addition of heat/air to the soil, and to prove that there is a decrease in clipping yields when there is no heat.

Due to weather conditions it has been hard to keep the heaters on for any length of time, we are forecast for better weather so hopefully we can continue to gather more data like this.
