New Heaters at TPC Sawgrass!

With the record cold winters Ponte Vedra has been battling in the past 2 years, TPC Sawgrass has installed new heaters for the greens. 6 machines manufactured by Precision Air were placed on holes 1,4,9,10, 17, and the big putting green. Tom Wait contracted by Precision Air installed the machines while Miller Electric provided electrical power.

The machines use 3 phase power to generate hot air which is pumped through the existing greens drainage tile. Heat pumping through the system is dependent on outside temperature and can range from 90 to 140 degrees Fahrenheit. We also have the advantage of using heat boost 1 and heat boost 2 on those especially frigid nights.

The Precision Air units are already working for us. In one week of use, we have seen a 5 degree increase in temperature between the heated greens and non-heated greens. This is a huge advantage in the fight to keep our greens healthy in preparation for the 2011 Players Championship.

Along with heat, these incredible machines are equipped with an air conditioning unit as well as suction capabilities. This allows the agronomy team to prevent the greens from overheating during the summer months and pull rainwater out of the soil profile in wet conditions.

We are very pleased with the progress we’ve seen so far and are very excited to use these heaters as a tool to provide the very best product available.
