Why Do We Tarp Greens?

The Stadium tarps greens during the late fall and winter seasons in an effort to protect the grass plant. We are protecting the greens from prolonged periods of cold temps, frost, and cold dessicating winds. During the late fall and winter season, not only is it colder, but the amount of daylight decreases each day until December 22. With the lack of sunlight, the importance of our black tarps to generate heat becomes even more important. Our main goal in placing tarps over the greens is to protect the greens and ready them for THE PLAYERS.

Tarp Facts...

Tarp placement is a feat each and every time we place the tarps and remove the tarps. It takes a minimum of twelve dedicated staff to efficiently cover and or remove the tarps. The tarps are held in place by 12" stakes. The tarps have been recently cut to the shape of each green which aids in efficiency. We currently tarp 22 greens each time we cover. The Tarps create a 10 degree difference from an uncovered green to a covered green, as evidenced by our temperature readings.

Please see the video of tarp placement below...

There is a big difference between a portion of the turf that has been covered and an area that has not been covered. See below....
